FirstUK Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed on Monday to use the “full force of the law” to identify and punish rioters who have sowed chaos and violence in several cities following the death of three children, one of whom was Portuguese, in a stabbing in Southport last week.
“Whatever the apparent reason, these are not protests, these are pure violence, and we will not tolerate attacks on our mosques or our Muslim communities. We will use the full force of the law to identify and bring to justice all those involved,” Starmer assured at the end of the COBRA emergency cabinet meeting.
At least 420 people have been arrested and dozens of police officers have been injured in protests led by far-right and anti-immigration groups and fueled by disinformation on social media. Violent attacks have escalated over the weekend, with protesters targeting mosques, immigrant shops and hotels housing asylum seekers.
