The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau has issued a notice giving the leader of parliament 15 days to appear before the office to respond to the criminal case.
The notice, dated July 31, reports on the prosecutor’s alleged difficulties in bringing Simões Pereira to court to answer in the context of the 2018 trial in which he was “declared a suspect.”
“Since 2016, the Ministry of Justice has been asking for the immunity of MP Domingos Simões Pereira to be lifted, but to no avail, as the issue was never brought to the plenary session of the National People’s Assembly,” the notice says.
The prosecutor’s office believes that Simões Pereira is “evading justice” and continues to maintain that the case is “in an unspecified part.”
The leader of parliament and president of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) has 15 days from the date of publication of the notice to appear before the prosecutor’s office “to learn about the preliminary charges in this case.”
