A 51-year-old man was arrested by the Lisbon Judicial Police (PJ) for setting fire to the house he shared with his wife in the town of Marinhais, Salvaterra de Magos. The suspect may have acted out of jealousy, as he suspected his wife was cheating on him.
The crime happened this week. The suspect came home, realized his wife was gone, and went berserk. First, he damaged several items inside the house, and then the house caught fire.
The rapid intervention of the Salvaterra de Magos firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the neighboring houses. The investigation was transferred to the Lisbon Police Fire Investigation Department. And very quickly traces were collected in the damaged house, which allowed not only to understand that it was a fire, but also to attribute it to one of the owners of the house.
Since the court did not allow the suspect to contact his partner, the investigation will continue with a view to possible prosecution by the prosecutor’s office.
