A man and a 23-year-old woman were the fatal victims of a road accident that occurred this Thursday in the municipality of Grândola, on Estrada Nacional 261 (EN261), which also left three people injured, the Civil Protection reported.
In a report by Lusa, a source from the Subregional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Alentejo explained that two of the injured were men aged 25 and 32, and there was also a 22-year-old woman with injuries.
Two of the seriously injured were taken to the Litoral Alentejuno Hospital (HLA) in Santiago do Cacem, Setubal district.
Another seriously injured person, the source continued, was taken by helicopter to the Garcia de Orta hospital in Almada, also in the district of Setubal, but “will be taken by ambulance to the San José hospital” in Lisbon.
The bodies of two people killed in a traffic accident involving a collision between two cars have been delivered to the forensic medical examination service of the regional state administration, a source in the sub-regional command added.
The accident, which was alerted at 5:33 a.m., occurred in Brejos da Carregueira, at the seventh kilometer of the EN261 motorway, the road connecting Carvalhal and Troia, and blocked traffic in both directions in the area, a source from the agency also told Lusa.
A source from the Setubal territorial command of the PNP told Lusa that traffic on that section of the road, which was closed in both directions, resumed “around 10:20 a.m.,” although it remains limited.
According to the same source, traffic on this road, connecting Carvalhal and Troia, moves alternately along one of the lanes.
The incident resulted in a total of 24 responders being mobilised, supported by 12 vehicles and a helicopter, including resources from the fire department, GNR and the National Institute of Emergency Medicine.
