An elderly man has died after being brutally assaulted in Santa Maria da Feira by a man after falling into a coma and being taken to hospital. A quarrel over futile reasons ended in a brutal attack on an 85-year-old man.
Diamantino Paiva was assisted by Arrifana firefighters and the Feira ambulance and resuscitation team. Despite this, he fell into a coma and was taken to Feira Hospital. The elderly man died about a week later.
The case, which had already been reported to the Feira Ministry of Public Affairs, has now been referred to the Judicial Police. The authorities will await the results of the autopsy to decide what steps to take.
The suspect in the attacks, a 75-year-old man known for his frequent involvement in skirmishes, has been identified by the PNP and may now face charges of alleged crimes against physical integrity aggravated by death.
