Russia on Friday dismissed as a provocation the US demand for American citizens to immediately leave Russian territory due to the consequences of the invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakarova denied Washington’s allegations of “possible intimidation, ill-treatment and arbitrary detention” of US citizens in Russia.
“This is a characteristic of the discriminatory attitude towards Russians” in the United States, the spokeswoman added, quoted by the TASS news agency.
Maria Zakarova also said that Washington wants to “cancel everything Russian”, and criticized the alleged persecution of Russian citizens who own real estate “in other countries”, without specifying.
The US Embassy in Moscow on Monday issued a new travel warning to US citizens advising them not to enter Russia and asking US citizens in Russia to leave the country immediately.
The same note states that “he has limited ability to assist US citizens in Russia.”
“Use the strictest precautions due to the risk of arrests,” reads the same note published earlier in the week.
“On October 20, 2022, the Russian government declared martial law in the regions bordering Ukraine, which allows for the prompt application of restrictive measures,” the note says.
