Manhattan prosecutors who brought criminal charges against former President Donald Trump for illegally paying a porn actress acknowledged Monday a possible stay of execution requested by the defense.
Lawyers for the Republican White House candidate asked last Thursday to delay his sentencing, scheduled for Sept. 18, until after the Nov. 5 presidential election because of the potential fallout from the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity.
The prosecutor’s office responded that it acknowledged that it was up to the court to decide “whether a delay (in sentencing) is justified in order to ensure disciplinary appeal proceedings on this issue (the issue of presidential immunity) or to reduce the risk of harm caused by a pause in judicial resources.”
