Construction output rose by 1% in the eurozone and fell by 0.1% in the European Union (EU) in June this year compared with the same month in 2023, statistical office Eurostat said today.
Data released by Eurostat today also show that seasonally adjusted construction output increased by 1.7% in the euro area and by 1.4% in the EU in June 2024 compared with May this year.
Earlier, in May 2024, construction output fell by 0.9% in the single currency area and by 1.1% in the EU.
By component, in the euro area in June 2024 compared with June 2023, construction output increased by 1.5% for building construction, by 3.5% for civil engineering, and by 0.4% for specialised construction activities.
In the EU, also in year-on-year change, construction output decreased by 1.0% for building construction, increased by 1.5% for civil engineering, and decreased by 0.3% for specialised construction activities.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest annual declines in construction output were recorded in Slovenia (-19.0%), the Czech Republic (-10.2%) and Sweden (-9.0%), while the largest increases were observed in Spain (-19.0%) +4.8%), Bulgaria (+2.9%) and Portugal (+2.7%).
By component, in the euro area in June 2024 compared with May this year, construction output increased by 1.8% for building construction, by 1.1% for civil engineering and by 0.5% for specialised construction activities.
In the EU, also in year-on-year fluctuation, construction output increased by 0.1% for building construction, 1.4% for civil engineering, 0.2% for specialised construction activities.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest monthly increases in construction output were recorded in Portugal (+3.2%), Romania (+2.6%) and France (+1.7%), while the largest declines were observed in Slovenia (-9.1%), Hungary (-6.4%) and Poland (-2.1%).
