The eurozone’s annual inflation rate stood at 2.6% in July, half the 5.3% recorded in the same period in 2023, the European Union’s (EU) statistical office Eurostat said.
Data released by Eurostat on Tuesday showed that the annual inflation rate in the eurozone was 2.6% in July 2024, up from 2.5% in June, compared with 5.3% a year earlier.
In the EU as a whole, annual inflation was 2.8% in July 2024, compared with 2.6% in June, when the figure was 6.1% a year earlier.
Across Member States, the lowest annual rates were recorded in Finland (0.5%), Latvia (0.8%) and Denmark (1.0%), while the highest were recorded in Romania (5.8%), Belgium (5.4%) and Hungary (4.1%).
In Portugal, the annual inflation rate was 2.7% in July, compared with 4.3% in the same period in 2023 and 3.1% in June this year.
Compared with June 2024, annual inflation fell in nine Member States, remained stable in four and rose in 14, according to Eurostat.
By component, in July 2024, the largest contribution to the annual inflation rate of the single currency area was made by services (+1.82 percentage points, p.p.), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco products (+0.45 p.p.), non-energy industrial goods (+0.19 p.p.) and energy (+0.12 p.p.).
