An engineer involved in the search for the Costa Concordia, which sank in Tuscany in 2012 and killed 32 people, believes six people are missing after the luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily, Italy. They may be located in “air pockets” in the ship’s hull.
Engineer Nick Sloan told the British newspaper The Telegraph that there was still a chance to find survivors, but rescue teams only had a few hours to save them.
A professional believes that if missing people are alive, they may be protected by ‘air pockets’ – air spaces formed within the hull of a vessel after the yacht capsizes.
It’s a fight against time, as the engineer believes that if they are indeed still alive, Rescue teams have just over 24 hours to get the crew alive.
The yacht is located 50 meters from the surface and is a large vessel, which makes it difficult for divers to work, as they are underwater for a maximum of 12 minutes.
According to the Italian press, divers found the yacht at a depth of almost 50 meters. According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della SeraThe crews were able to see bodies inside the vessel.
