The Venezuelan opposition has demanded the resignation of the president of the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ), Carislia Beatriz Rodriguez, the body that is verifying the results of the July presidential elections at the request of President Nicolás Maduro.
The request was submitted by Enrique Marquez, former vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and one of the ten candidates running in the elections, claiming that the president of the Electoral Chamber – one of the six departments of the STJ – maintains ties with the president and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (UPV, in government).
“We have filed a petition to remove the president of the STJ Electoral Chamber due to the obvious political ties that she has maintained and maintains with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela and with the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, the main complainant in this case,” Enrique Márquez told reporters leaving the STJ.
