A man accidentally stabbed several people Friday night at a festival in Solingen, Germany, a German newspaper reports. ImageAt least three people were killed and eight were injured, five of them seriously.
German police said on Saturday they were still searching for the man who planned the knife attack in Solingen, Germany.
In accordance with Reuters“The police have mobilized a large number of forces, including special forces, to the old town of Solingen. Victims and witnesses are currently being questioned,” police in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW, in its German abbreviation) said in a statement.
Police have asked the public to submit evidence or images of the attack via a website set up for the purpose.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect is hiding. The man allegedly stabbed one of the victims in the neck, so investigators classified the crime as a terrorist attack.
The attack took place in a square where live bands were performing during a party to mark the city’s 650th anniversary, called the “Festival of Diversity.” 80,000 visitors were expected this weekend.
According to the same source, the festival has been cancelled and a police helicopter is flying over the isolated area.
Residents were advised to stay at home and avoid the city centre.
