A 58-year-old man has been arrested after attacking three people, including a police officer, with a stationery knife following a two-vehicle collision in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday.
Second SunAt 09:00 (00:00 Lisbon time), police were called to the scene of a traffic accident between two vehicles. The suspect attacked the victims after the collision.
When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the alleged assailant on the run and deployed a Taser before moving to arrest him.
The 40-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and had to be rushed to hospital. The police officer was also attacked on his left wrist and required hospital treatment.
Not far from the scene of the incident, a team of medical workers had to provide assistance to a victim who had suffered cardiac arrest.
At a press conference, police officer Donald Faulds explained that the attacker “was armed with what they believed to be a box cutter.”
NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley said there was no threat to the Sydney community.
In response to the latest attacks, the government in June passed laws allowing police to use scanners metal detector electronics for people surveillance.
In April, six people were killed and 12 injured in a stabbing at a shopping centre in Sydney’s Bondi district.
