The United States of America (USA) denied on Tuesday at the UN its involvement in the attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines and accused Russia of trying to divert attention from events timed to coincide with the year of the invasion of Ukraine.
Russia convened a meeting at the UN Security Council on Tuesday to discuss last September’s explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, following the circulation of a resolution calling on the UN to investigate the sabotage. However, the resolution was not put to a vote at the meeting.
Several Western delegations questioned the “timing” of this meeting, scheduled about five months after the bombings and just in time for the week the UN has a broad agenda to celebrate a year of war in Ukraine, including voting on a resolution in the General Assembly condemning the invasion. Russians and calling for the withdrawal of troops.
