UNITA demands an investigation to identify the “true culprits” in the deaths of eight young people in Luanda.

UNITA “demands” the authorities to conduct an investigation to investigate the “true perpetrators” of the death of eight young people in Luanda under circumstances yet to be established, given that the “heinous act” constitutes a “serious violation” of the right to life.

The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA, the largest opposition party) refers in a note published this Friday that information published on social networks and in the media “points to the alleged elements of the SIC (Criminal Investigation Service) as being liable for a public crime that shocked society.”

In view of the seriousness of the fact, the executive secretariat of the Standing Committee of the UNITA Political Commission “demands the competent authorities” to conduct an “investigation to establish the true perpetrators of the heinous act, which constitutes a serious violation of the right to life”, enshrined in the Constitution.

Young people were killed on 14 February in the municipality of Kakuako, north of Luanda, where they were living in a hostel with other young people.

The UNITA political body also recalled that Angola had abolished the death penalty, “so that extrajudicial executions of citizens, regardless of the reasons, must challenge the country’s political authorities and society as a whole.”

UNITA, which expressed sincere condolences to the families of the victims, also called on society to condemn the occurrence of situations that constitute a violation of the right to life, and called on the President of Angola, João Lourenço, to “guarantee the safety and protection of the lives of citizens.” “.

On Wednesday, the SIC announced that it was investigating the death of eight people from the municipality of Kakuako, Luanda province, whose relatives went missing.

The SIC reported that on February 15, relatives learned of the disappearance of eight young people who lived in a guest house in the company of other young people.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, taking into account the seriousness of the situation, a “complex of investigative actions was initiated, expressed in the initiation of competent proceedings, as well as a prompt judicial examination of the place indicated by family members as the scene of the crime.” young people were celebrating Valentine’s Day, at that time they were taken out of there.

According to preliminary information from witnesses who were present at the scene, the Investigative Committee reports in its note, it is said that the victims were taken away by four unidentified persons who were already at the scene before the appearance of eight young people, “armed with pistols and under threat of death, then destroying the video surveillance system hotels.

According to the facts, two days after the disappearance, the bodies of young people previously considered missing were found in the mortuary of Josina Machel Hospital and identified by their relatives.

“Given that the facts presented here indicate a high complexity and concern for public safety, the SIC, in coordination with the PNA [Polícia Nacional de Angola]continue to conduct due diligence aimed at identifying and locating the perpetrators of this crime for subsequent criminal liability,” the note emphasizes.
