The trial of the rape of a 14-year-old girl by Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard has been dropped. The former archbishop of Bordeaux confessed to the crime.
In accordance with Franceinfo, Marseille’s State Ministry reported that the crime, committed more than 35 years ago, has already been handed down. In 2022, Ricard admitted to having had a “reprehensible” act with a minor. Already in front of the police, the former priest admitted that he “kissed, hugged and caressed his clothes without having sex.”
“I decided that I no longer want to be silent and want to put myself at the disposal of justice. When I was a parish priest, I behaved reprehensibly with a 14-year-old girl, ”he wrote in a letter that was read by the president of the Conference of Bishops of France.
The statements of Ricard, one of the most famous names of the French clergy, shocked the country. In addition to Bordeaux, the former priest was Bishop of Coutances and Montpellier.
