The Polish authorities ruled out the possibility that Yuliya Wandelt as Maddie McCann, an Englishwoman who disappeared from Praia da Luz in the Algarve in 2007. To the Polish news website Gazeta, a police spokesman from Wroclaw, Poland, stated that “the steps taken in this phases contradict the version presented by the young woman.
“The investigation is ongoing, but even now it can be ruled out that the version is true,” Pavel Noga said.
According to the chief of police, Yulia’s family presented documents, namely the birth certificate of a young woman.
Julia Wandelt became popular on social media after creating an Instagram account under the name @Iammadeleinemccann (“I am Madeleine McCann” in Portuguese). In less than ten days after postings showing a resemblance to a missing child, a Polish girl has amassed over a million followers.

Madeleine McCann disappeared from her Algarve apartment while on holiday with her family in 2007. At that time she was three years old. The case remains unsolved 16 years later, with hundreds of people investigated and thousands of leads.
