In Spain, ten Ukrainian refugees suspected of robbing were detained, objects and money worth about a million euros were seized, the Spanish police said on Friday.
The suspects, seven Ukrainians and three Russians, “targeted such people.” [refugiados] which usually contains all your savings and valuables, ”the Spanish Civil Guard said in a statement.
The ten arrested are suspected of robbing seven houses of Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Spain after the Russian invasion and settled in the provinces of Alicante and Murcia, on the Mediterranean coast, in eastern Spain.
During the operation, police seized items worth 1.25 million euros, including a stamp collection valued at half a million euros, as well as jewelry and computers.
The detainees allegedly installed geolocation systems in the cars of the victims in order to be able to follow their every step.
Spanish police announced in January that they had dismantled a network of three tobacco factories where Ukrainians who fled to Spain after the Russian invasion were exploited and “hammered” into makeshift homes.
Since the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Spain has received about 160,000 Ukrainian refugees.
