Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, is expected to reopen to the public in late 2024, the head of the renovation project said on Monday, cited by ABC News. The cathedral burned down after a fire on the roof in 2019.
“My task is to be ready for the opening of the cathedral in 2024. And we will do it. We fight for it every day and we are on the right path,” he said. Jean-Louis Georgelin.
Reconstruction of Notre Dame began last year, when it was possible to secure the monument for the start of repair work. Since then, more than a thousand people have worked on the restoration of the temple.
Philippe Jost, CEO of the government agency overseeing the renovation, says the result “will match the original architecture.”
French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak explains that the opening of Notre Dame is scheduled for December 2024, but delays are possible. “There will still be some renovation work in 2025,” Abdul-Malak emphasizes.
On Tuesday, an exhibition entitled “Notre Dame de Paris: in the middle of construction” will open. The visit is free and takes place in the underground room in front of the cathedral. The exhibition promises that one can “experience the experience of visiting Notre Dame in a whole new way.”
