The Kremlin acknowledged on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin could attend the September G20 summit in India, but stressed that no final decisions had yet been made.
“That cannot be ruled out,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a daily press conference by phone, adding that “no decisions have been made yet.”
“Russia continues to fully participate in the G20 format, and we intend to continue participation,” the spokesman emphasized.
The G20 summit is scheduled for the next 9 and 10 September in New Delhi.
Last year, the head of the Russian state did not attend the summit of the 19 most industrialized countries of the world and the European Union, held in Indonesia, represented by the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov.
In 2020 and 2021, ahead of the Russian military campaign against Ukraine, the Russian President participated remotely in meetings of the G20 heads of state.
The last time Putin personally attended the G20 summit in 2019 in Japan.
