Pediatric emergency services at the San Francisco Xavier (Lisbon), Beatriz Angelo (Lores) and Centro Hospitalar do Oeste hospitals will be closing overnight from April 1, the SNS Executive Directorate announced on Monday.
As part of the strategy to reorganize the pediatric emergency service in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region, the Executive Board ensures that none of the 14 pediatric emergency services in the region will be closed.
However, the number of departments closed at night, from 21:00 to 09:00, is increased to three, as the emergency service at the Beatriz Angelo Hospital was already closed at night and on weekends due to a lack of specialists.
This strategy is the result of “long weeks of working with professionals from various institutions on the ground, with the necessary consideration and dialogue to create responses aimed at ensuring the proximity and access of the population to the SNS, highlighting the enormous generosity and efforts of professionals,” says in the DE-SNS application.
