Lara, a seven-year-old girl, was stabbed to death by her 69-year-old grandfather on Tuesday morning in Vialonga, Vila Franca de Xira. The aggressor, after committing the crime, attempted suicide, but firefighters managed to resuscitate him and he was taken to the Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon.
The mother of the child, 24 years old, was not at home at the time of the crime, and it was she who called the firemen. The girl was already unconscious and nothing could be done to save her.
Neighbors claim that the grandfather always walked “hand in hand” with his granddaughter and that there seemed to be affection between them.
According to GNR spokeswoman Mafalda Gomes de Almeida, the child lived with his 69-year-old grandfather and mother, and the “context of domestic violence” is unknown.
The judicial police are investigating.
