The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) has opened 25 criminal cases in connection with consumer price speculation following a mega operation carried out this Wednesday in hypermarkets and supermarkets from the north to the south of the country.
The ASEI statement says that 46 brigades were involved in the inspection and 141 economic entities were inspected, 17 cases of administrative offenses were initiated.
Recorded offenses relate to “non-compliance with the rules of sales with price cuts, the practice of fraudulent commercial activities, the lack of display of prices, the lack of metrological control in weighing instruments, non-compliance with the rules for providing information to consumers.” and the lack of mandatory food labeling information,” he said.
The ASAE also specifies that the new inspection activities will be carried out “throughout the country” in the interest of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, in order to ensure food safety and consumer health.”
The operation took place on World Consumer Day and aimed to monitor prices “to see the speculation”, determine the cost, “what is on the shelf and what is paid at the checkout,” Nuno Fazenda told RTP3.
