A Briton was infected for 411 days with Covid-19, first tested in December 2020, finally cured after being treated with Regeneron, the same drug that Donald Trump was taking when he was infected.
Despite the man’s weakened immune system, thanks to a kidney transplant, he managed to survive and is considered the person with the longest Covid-19 infection. Positive test result from December 2020 to January 2022, despite the fact that the symptoms disappeared over time.
According to information made public sky newsDoctors at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London say they know of no other case of someone recovering from such a long infection.
The 59-year-old patient was infected with one of the first versions of Covid from Wuhan, which later evolved to be replaced by the Alpha, Delta and Omicron variants. Only after the individual variant had been identified was it treated with Regeneron.
The medical team also came into contact with another patient who died 505 days after infection. In both cases, neither the deceased patient nor the patient who survived after 411 days of infection was re-infected.
