Italian car maker Ferrari has been hit by a computer attack that demanded a ransom for recovering some of its customers’ stolen contact details, the company said.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Ferrari announced, informing the authorities, that it would not accept any form of blackmail.
“In line with its corporate policy, Ferrari will not accept any ransom demands as this will fund criminal activity and allow threat actors to perpetuate their attacks,” explained the company, which has already suffered from other cyberattacks.
The company is a very attractive target for cybercriminals trying to steal information, in this case regarding customer contact details, but in general also its developments, products and patents, which are highly valued in the market.
The car manufacturer immediately informed customers about the possible disclosure of their data.
“Ferrari takes the issue of secrecy very seriously and understands the importance of what happened. We have partnered with experts to further strengthen our systems and we are confident they are reliable,” he explained.
