Ecuador’s interior ministry said five letters sent to journalists and the media in recent days have found explosive devices and are under investigation to identify those responsible for the attacks.
Interior Minister Juan Zapata said on Monday that, according to initial investigations, the shipment originated from the city of Quinzaloma in the central province of Los Rios, one of the jurisdictions hardest hit by the crime.
The sender, whose identity has not been released for the purposes of the investigation, sent five letters from the country: three to the coastal city of Guayaquil and two to the Andean city of Quito, the country’s most populous city and home to most of the mainstream media.
