This Saturday, the PSD President criticized the government for being “greedy for taxes but very stingy with social support” and called on the Portuguese community to live in Luxembourg to help attract investment to Portugal.
“As you know, we live in a time when Portugal has become impoverished due to socialist policies. We have a government that pays taxes greedily but is very stingy with social support. We must change this,” Luis Montenegro supported during a speech at the congress of the Christian Social People (CSV) party in Ettelbrück, Luxembourg.
The Portuguese make up the largest foreign community in Luxembourg. In 2021, there were more than 93 thousand Portuguese citizens in the country, which is about 30% of the total population.
Luis Montenegro addressed the Portuguese community present at the event and asked to attract more investment to Portugal: “The help of all of you, those who live here in Luxembourg, who can invest in Portugal or who can attract investors, is very much needed.” .
Luxembourg has two elections this year: local on June 11 and legislative on October 8. There are Portuguese on the CSV lists in the first elections, and the social democratic leader left the word to a party belonging to the same European political family, the European People’s Party (PPE).
“Portuguese participation in local political bodies here in Luxembourg is also a way to not only help better integrate those who live here, but also to serve the interests of Portugal.”
Luis Montenegro is visiting Portuguese communities in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland this week as part of the Sentir Portugal initiative.
After participating in the congress this Saturday, the SDP chairman is heading to Paris, where he will meet with local party structures, the national community of this city and businessmen.
