Life Saving Surf Club in Sydney, Australia warned Nada Pantle that she had violated the club’s rules by being naked in the locker room. The institution claims to have a child safety policy as a matter of principle and therefore bans “nudity”.
“I feel humiliated. They didn’t tell me what I did or who filed the complaint, but they hinted that what I did was almost sexy,” the surfer said. Australian Broadcasting Corporation, cited BBC News.
The surf club already had in the locker rooms, warning signs were placed on which one could read: “Nudity is prohibited.” The same information also explains that participants must shower in their bathing suits, as well as change clothes between bathing towels.
“The sign was probably put up three months ago and we all sort of ignored it because it looked crazy,” Wendy Farley, a surfer friend who is also in the same club, said in statements to BBC Newsemphasizing that they are just “showering” and not just “walking naked”.
Nada Pantle was not only warned, but asked to leave the club if she broke the rules again. However, in the end, the surfer left by her own decision.
Steve Pearce, the club’s general manager, explained that the signage could have been clearer, but that this was only done as a temporary measure until the dressing rooms were renovated.
“We understand that facilities are inadequate,” the CEO explained. BBC Newsadded that the “club” had received complaints from some of the younger members that they felt intimidated and uncomfortable.
“We are very concerned about the protection of children, but we do not consider this a constructive solution. I would be happy to pay higher annual fees if it was a matter of funding,” said Wendy Farley. BBC News.
