Thousands of people gather across the country this Saturday to protest against the rising cost of living and for the right to housing. Protests are taking place in Lisbon, Porto, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.
Rent regulation, suspension of evictions and an end to real estate speculation are some of the demonstrators’ demands.
It should be recalled that last Thursday the government approved the “More Housing” pact aimed at stimulating the housing market, and on the same day, owners and workers of local housing throughout the country protested against this program.
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has already criticized the program, saying that the government’s plan is “not feasible”.
