Patrice Trovoada was appointed Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe by the President of the Republic of Sao Tome, Carlos Vila Nova, in accordance with a presidential decree issued this Thursday.
Patrice Trovoad’s party, ADI, won the most votes in the September 25 elections with an absolute majority (30 seats in parliament, five more than in the previous legislature).
According to a presidential decree, this appointment followed a hearing of political parties by the head of state and after ADI proposed Patrice Trovoadu for the post of prime minister.
Thus, Patrice Trovoada became the head of the XVIII constitutional government of Sao Tome and Principe. The inauguration of the new prime minister is scheduled for this Friday, and his government will take office next Monday.
On Tuesday, the President of Vila Nova fired leader Jorge Bom Jesus in the wake of the results of the legislative elections.
“By Presidential Decree No. 25/2022, the President of the Republic, Carlos Vila Nova, on November 8, dismissed the XVII Constitutional Government headed by Dr. Jorge López de Bom Jesus, who was appointed by Presidential Decrees Nos. .25 and 26/2018, November 29 and December 3, respectively,” the administration of the President of the Republic of Sao Tome said in a Facebook post.
In the last elections, the MLSTP/PSD, led by former Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus, elected 18 deputies (minus five).
The third political force in the Parliament of Sao Tome, of the five elected, is the Movement of Independent Citizens-Socialist Party/Party of National Unity (MCIS-PS/PUN), better known as the “Movement of Caue”, an area in the south of the island of Sao Tome). The movement elected two deputies to the previous legislature for the first time.
Bast’s newly formed movement, which absorbed the historic Democratic Rapprochement Party (PCD) and welcomed former ADI members, made its legislative debut and won two terms.
