Paris will ban the rental of electric scooters from September 1, the mayor of the French capital said after the public voted to remove them from the streets. Companies have already responded and say they will try to thwart the ban, which garnered 89% of the vote in favor of banning the mode of transport from the city, Reuters reported.
According to the Paris City Council’s Twitter account, 89% of the votes in favor of banning this mode of transport in the city voted in favor of the ban. “Public consultations” caused long lines at polling stations throughout the city, but turnout was low at 7.46% of registered voters.
Mayor Anne Hidalgo said she would respect the vote of the electorate. “From September 1, there will be no more electric scooter rentals in Paris,” he said at a press conference this Sunday.
