For the first time in history, an African American and a woman will go to the moon. The team of four astronauts for the Artemis II space mission was unveiled this Monday by NASA.
Christina Koch, 44-year-old American, will go down in history. The astronaut already holds the record for the longest time spent in space by a woman. North American Victor Glover, 46, will be the first African American to make the trip of its kind. The space mission aims to reach the moon, but the crew is not expected to set foot on lunar soil.
The journey became even more unprecedented as he became the first Canadian to walk on the moon. Jeremy Hansen, 47, became the first non-US astronaut to fly to Earth’s natural satellite.
The team is complemented by Reed Wiseman, a 47-year-old American who will lead the mission.
The flight, scheduled for early 2024, aims to reach the Moon in order to get closer to the planet Mars.
For the first time in over 50 years, a space mission is heading to the moon. The last one was in December 1972, when two astronauts landed on the moon on Apollo 17.
