A 22-year-old man was arrested in Lisbon on suspicion of “violently assaulting” his girlfriend’s two-year-old son and his partner, with a court order forbidding contact or approaching the victims.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Lisbon Metropolitan PSP said the arrest of the man took place on Saturday in the parish of Moscavide “because he is suspected of committing the crime of domestic violence.”
According to the PSP certificate, on March 17, the agents left for the Moskavide parish, where there were “reports that the suspect had brutally attacked a two-year-old child.”
On the spot, the child’s mother reported that she spent the night in a local hostel in the company of her minor son and the suspect, whom she has been dating for about five months and is currently pregnant.
The woman also explained to agents that the day before, closer to dinner, she was in her room, and the suspect looked after her son in the kitchen.
Moments later, “he heard a sharp sound as the child walked towards him, showing bruises on his head and marks that matched the fingerprints,” the note says.
The next day, he adds, and after being out of work, when he arrived at the hostel, he discovered that the hematoma on his son’s head had “spread to the rest of the frontal region of his forehead,” thus deciding to go to the hospital.
At this point, according to PSP, the suspect became agitated and punched his girlfriend in the face, “which caused her to scream for help and run out of the house, carrying her youngest son with her.”
Already on the street and in the immediate vicinity of the scene, the people who were there activated the means of assistance, and also reported to the PSP, and the suspect fled.
Also according to the PSP, following an investigation of the facts, an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, who subsequently appeared in court, using coercive measures in the form of weekly performances, a ban on contact and approaching the victims.
