Evan Gershkovich, an American journalist for the Wall Street Journal, was formally charged this Friday with spying in Moscow by investigators from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).
“The FSB investigation accused Gershkovich of espionage in the interests of his country. He categorically denied all accusations and stated that he was engaged in journalistic activities in Russia,” he said. The man refused to comment further, as the case is classified.
According to the news agency TASSthe journalist was charged under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Evan Gershkovich was caught in the act.
