Ukrainian authorities have placed more than 6,000 anti-tank mines along the border with Belarus in operations aimed at strengthening the country’s defensive line, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
The commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Naev, referring to the Spanish agency Europa Press, said that defensive operations along the border with Belarus (north of the country) were proceeding at a “good pace” and that in addition to placing six thousand mines, seven kilometers of trenches had been built in positions close to the dividing line between by both countries.
“The expansion of barriers in the border areas with Belarus continues with the installation of minefields” in areas accessible to tanks, or routes through which “the enemy could penetrate the country,” the official explained.
