The Ribeiro Sanchez Medical Unit in Amadora will have new premises to replace the existing ones, which have been operating in containers for 10 years, the municipality announced on Monday, with an investment of nearly three million euros.
After the performance award was approved at a City Council meeting on Wednesday, the Chamber of Amador said in a statement that a new Family Health Facility (USF) will be built in Pracheta Moinho da Boba, next to Estrada da Serra. da Mira (Sao Bras parish), about 350 meters from the current facilities.
Asked by Lusa, the Municipality of the Lisbon District explained in writing that the work “will replace the temporary facilities that have been operating in containers since 2013, a solution implemented at the time as a way to expand the population’s healthcare network.”
The new USF Ribeiro Sanches has a budget of two million 800 thousand euros and is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
With two floors, consultation and nursing rooms, as well as waiting and treatment rooms, the space will enable “improved conditions for serving the population, as well as increasing the level of coverage of medical services in the vicinity” and “early intervention in the disease and the introduction of innovation and development of the healthcare system,” – it is said in the note sent by the Chamber.
The infrastructure will serve 20,900 users, according to estimates from the municipality, led by socialist Carla Tavares.
According to March data from the National Health Service (NHS), posted on the website of the Ministry of Health, there are currently 9,684 users registered in the space – 15% without a family doctor.
The city council also indicates that the work has a deadline of 546 days, that is, it must be completed in the fall of 2024.
According to the latest SNS data, the Amadora Medical Centers (ACES) group consists of 10 divisions and has 181,542 registered users.
