Tesla is the subject of a collective privacy invasion complaint after it became known that employees within the company were sharing confidential images captured by cameras installed in the electric car brand’s vehicles.
Elon Musk’s cars are equipped with multiple sensors, including cameras, to control the environment’s assistance tools, according to a complaint filed Friday by Henry Yeh, owner of the Model Y in California, and seen this Monday by France-Presse (AFP). ).
Employees accessed personnel “not for the stated purpose of communicating, providing services, and improving Tesla vehicle driving systems,” the complaint said.
But “for the tasteless and criminal entertainment of Tesla employees and possibly people outside the company,” adds the document, based on testimony released Thursday by Reuters.
Employees released “recordings of Tesla customers in personal and embarrassing situations, such as videos of a person approaching a Tesla vehicle completely naked, videos of crashes or road rage,” accuse the whistleblowers.
It is also possible to find out where the videos were filmed, allowing the owner of the vehicle to be identified, contrary to what the company alleges, the complaint also highlights.
The plaintiff, who charges Tesla with invasion of privacy, consumer infringement, breach of contract and negligence, among other things, seeks damages.
Tesla did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for a response.
