The Provincial Anti-Corruption Authority (GPCC) in Sofala, central Mozambique, announced this Wednesday the arrest of a lawyer who allegedly attempted to bribe an agent of the Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic).
Sofala GPCC spokeswoman Mariana Macamo told reporters that Sernik’s agent detained the lawyer when he tried to give him a 100,000 metiqai (€1,400) bribe to disobey an arrest warrant for a citizen accused of aggravated theft.
“He [advogado] was arrested at the scene of the crime and handed over to the Sofala Police Department,” Makamo said.
Because of his behavior, he continued, the lawyer committed the crime of active corruption and is subject to imprisonment for up to two years, taking into account the amount of the bribe.
