President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday unexpectedly visited the city of Kherson, liberated by Ukraine. Zelensky considers this one of the country’s biggest successes since the beginning of the armed conflict.
According to the newspaper New York TimesThe Ukrainian president reportedly told hundreds of people that “step by step we are reaching our entire country”, to which he added: “I am happy that we are in Kherson.”
Zelensky’s visit to Kherson reflects the strength and courage that Ukraine has acquired over time. The city of Kherson is positioning itself as a strong strategic point as it is a vital port on the Black Sea and a gateway to Crimea, becoming the first Ukrainian city dominated by Putin’s troops since the start of the war.
The Ukrainian president, during his visit to the recaptured city, was surrounded by soldiers and police with rifles, and was greeted by a crowd that applauded him and shouted “glory to Ukraine,” the agency said. New York Times🇧🇷
The withdrawal of Russian troops from Kherson was a strong blow to the Kremlin of Vladimir Putin, who sought to conquer all of southern Ukraine.
