Under the financial directive, which comes into force on Saturday, volunteer firefighters who are part of the Special Device for Rural Fire Fighting (DECIR) will receive 64 euros a day this year, three euros more than in 2022.
The financial directive for 2023, approved this week by Civil Protection Minister Patricia Gaspar, establishes the state’s share of the costs associated with the intervention of fire brigades in various civil protection operational devices, namely DECIR.
In addition to increasing the daily amount each volunteer firefighter will receive from €61 to €64, the team elements daily contribution is also increased from €71 to €74.7, according to the financial directive that Lusa had access to.
The document also provides for a 5.1% increase in the amount of daily payments to personnel that combine intervention groups and other reinforcement groups.
This year, food costs will also be updated by about 7.8%, which will increase the cost of lunch and dinner from 10 to 10.80 euros, and light meals from 2.75 to 3 euros.
The tables of amounts payable for breakage or damage to equipment and vehicles have also been updated.
According to the document, an average of 10% of the reference values for vehicles and 5% for equipment will be increased this year.
This year’s financial directive also increases by 75% the daily per-operation amount payable to the Humanitarian Volunteer Fire Associations that house the exclusive DECIR response teams to cover logistical support costs. 1.75 euros per operation.
The 2023 Financial Directive, effective Saturday, establishes the state’s contribution to the cost of fire brigade interventions in accordance with the National Emergency and Civil Protection Administration (ANEPC) standing provisions, namely the Comprehensive Device for Protection and Assistance Operations ( DIOPS), the Special Rural Fire Fighting Device, and the Serra da Estrela Joint Protection and Assistance Device (DICSE).
The document also includes the cost of volunteer firefighters for fuel and personal protective equipment.
The Financial Directive is reviewed annually and approved after a hearing by the National Office for Emergency and Civil Protection and the League of Firefighters of Portugal.
A special device to fight rural fires for this year will be reviewed and approved Friday at a meeting of the National Commission for Civil Protection, the coordinating body for civil protection, chaired by Secretary of State Patricia Gaspard.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has already announced that this year there will be a reinforcement of military means.
