IL says Lula’s presence in Parliament is an instrumentalization April 25

The leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Rui Rocha, considered that the presence of the President of Brazil in the Assembly of the Republic on April 25 meant “instrumentalization” of the historical date, stressing that only the leader of the parliament would be represented by the party.

Speaking to reporters in Braga on the sidelines of a visit to the Associação Empresarial do Minho, Rui Rocha stressed that the presence of the leader of the parliament would serve as a sign of respect for the Brazilian people and the defense of Ukraine.

“We do not accept, when there is a war in Europe, that the “Putinist lobby”, of which Lula da Silva is a part, imposes itself on the Portuguese on such an important date as April 25th. a sign that we do not accept this imposition,” he said.

The leader of the IL parliament will attend the meeting, which will include Lula da Silva, displaying the symbol of the Ukrainian flag, and the rest of the bench will leave the hall, he predicts.

“We are there and we stand face to face with Lula da Silva, for freedom and for Ukraine,” added Rui Rocha.

The presence in parliament of the President of Brazil, who is visiting Portugal from 22 to 25 April, has caused controversy, since in February Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho spoke out in a speech by Lula da Silva at the ceremony of meeting the April Revolution in the Assembly of the Republic, highlighting its unprecedented nature. , who deserved the opposition of the SDP, I.L. and Chega.

In the end, Parliament decided that instead of speaking at the annual commemorative commemoration session, the President of Brazil would hold a separate welcome session that same day during Lula da Silva’s state visit to Portugal.

On Saturday, the Brazilian president said after a visit to China that “the United States should stop encouraging war” in Ukraine and “the European Union should start talking about peace.”

Thus, he explained to reporters, the international community will be able to “convince” Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky that “peace is in the interests of the whole world.”

“It takes patience” to talk to Putin and Zelensky, he said. “But first of all, we must convince the countries that supply weapons, that encourage war, to stop,” he added.
