According to Dutch police, the body of a stowaway was found this Monday at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport on the undercarriage of a plane en route from Toronto.
“The plane must have made other stops as well,” including in Lagos, Nigeria, police spokesman Agence France-Presse (AFP) said.
He added that airport workers discovered the man’s body when they were about to start repairing the aircraft in the hangar.
The KLM plane arrived in the Netherlands from Toronto, Canada and had previously stopped in Lagos.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Van Capel added, without providing further information about the man’s identity or specifying where he came from.
“Incidents like this happen sporadically,” he said.
Last year, a stowaway survived the 9,000-kilometer journey between Johannesburg and Amsterdam by hiding in the front landing gear of a cargo plane.
In 2021, the border police found the body of a Nigerian man in the undercarriage of an airplane arriving in Amsterdam-Schiphol.
