A United Nations (UN) panel of experts specializing in racism, set up in the wake of the killing of African-American George Floyd during a police intervention, announced this Friday its trip to the US next week.
The group, called “a mechanism of experts responsible for promoting racial justice and equality in the context of maintaining order,” indicated that it would travel to Washington, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis and New York within two weeks.
This mechanism was created by the UN Human Rights Council in 2021, a year after the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer, to investigate allegations of racist police violence around the world.
