The Union of Prehospital Emergency Technicians (STEPH) announced this Wednesday that the overtime strike has been canceled in view of the “openness” shown by the tutelage in negotiating the careers of these professionals, advanced the structure of the union.
Negotiations were held with the Health Ministry on Wednesday to revise wages to offset the “squeeze” caused by the country’s minimum wage hike, which increased the remuneration index on the salary table of these technicians, the president explained. STEFA, Rui Lazaro.
The increase corresponds to an increase of approximately 55 euros, which is added to the approximately 52 euros announced for the public administration, and means a salary increase of more than 100 euros for prehospital emergency technicians from January, when the 2023 State Budget comes into force.
STEPH has also been guaranteed the start of negotiations to approve a special career agreement and its evaluation, justifying the decision to cancel the overtime strike that has been going on since November 8th.
“We are disappointed because expectations [de valorização] were much higher, but given the commitments we have made, we want to show this openness,” said Rui Lazaro Lusa.
The strike should be effectively canceled from Thursday, following the necessary formalities, the union president explained.
Rui Lazaro also warned that if there is no news of the upskilling process by the end of the year, “these technicians will have no alternative” but to return to fighting and claiming.
In response to the announcement to end the strike, the Ministry of Health, in a statement, welcomed “the openness to dialogue and the cooperative stance shown by this trade union structure, especially at a time when there is an increase in demand for medical services.” care during the autumn-winter period, which leads to an increase in efforts also for pre-hospital emergency technicians (TEPH)”, also thanking these technicians for their “central role” in the healthcare system and reiterating the commitment to “the path of understanding and appreciation of TEP”.
