“While the Court realized that no additional sanction of a ban should be applied to my mandate as a Member of the European Parliament, I myself decided to renounce this mandate, preserving the institution and the party from which I was elected, and without disturbing the normal functioning and political work of both “, Amaro said in a press release sent to Luce, where he states his intention to appeal the verdict.
“I waive the conviction based on the so-called intent to benefit the construction company with works that Camara de Gouveia did not provide or pay for such a company, and which did not even count in the subsequent public bidding for the execution of these works. the same work,” he said.
In the European Parliament, Alvaro Amaro was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and a delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
MEP Alvaro Amaro and Mayor Luis Tadeu, former president and current mayor of Gouveia, respectively, were today sentenced to suspended prison terms by the Guarda Court in a public-private partnership case.
The court acquitted the mayor of Alcobaza, Herminio Rodriguez.
Álvaro Amaro and Luis Tadeu were also acquitted of the additional penalty of losing their political mandate, given that they had served “consecutive mandates” in the meantime.
