The Minister of the Interior (MAI) assured this Friday that police action against drug trafficking in the Pastelleira area of Porto will “intensify” and that “never have they been as visible” as they are today.
“You have seen what the ministry is doing, I think it has never been so noticeable (…). This work will continue and I can guarantee that it will intensify,” said José Luis Carneiro in Valonga on the sidelines. city day of civil protection.
According to him, the fight against drug trafficking in this area of Porto “is a task that needs to be formulated at the level of various police forces”, but this in itself does not solve the problem.
“Police intervention does not structurally solve the problem of drug use, because the structural solution to the problem of drug use requires a comprehensive intervention, and here we also aim to work with the Porto City Council and other municipalities in the country,” he said.
José Luis Carneiro also recalled some of the figures already known about the fight against human trafficking in Pastelleira and the result of the mega-operation carried out last week.
“Last year we had over 1,700 patrol missions in this particular area of the city of Porto, over 350 arrests, between January and February we had over 70 arrests, and now a mega-operation has been carried out with the consequences of destroying a highly organized network of passing drug trafficking” , he noted.
