Greek authorities have announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murder of a policeman and crime journalist two years ago in the south of the Greek capital.
Giorgos Karaivaz was shot dead on April 29, 2021, allegedly shot multiple times by two men on a motorcycle as he got out of his car to reach his home in southern Athens.
Greek police said on Friday they had arrested two men, aged 40 and 48, on suspicion of murder in connection with the journalist’s death.
Police did not provide further details about the arrests, but a press conference is expected on Saturday.
Giorgos Karaivaz has published research on the links between the state and organized crime, especially on corruption in the Greek police, on his blog Bloko.gr and on the Star TV channel.
The journalist appeared daily on television, specializing in police reporting and criminal investigations.
Giorgos Karaivaz was 52 years old, and he was returning from the recording of the program “Verdades com Zina”, on which he had been working since 2017.
