The Lourinhaan Municipal Assembly unanimously approved on Friday evening a motion to challenge the overnight closure of the pediatric emergency room in Torres Vedras at the Centro Hospitalar do Oeste (CHO).
The petition, which Lusa had access to, “requires the intervention of the Ministry of Health to reverse the decision to close the pediatric emergency department overnight at the hospital in Torres Vedras” in order to “ensure the maintenance of differentiated care.” assistance in emergency situations for children and adolescents.
Municipal deputies emphasize that the night closing of the service “left about 30,000 children and adolescents without medical care.”
The petition will be sent to the Ministry of Health, the Assembly of the Republic, to the leadership of the Western Hospital Center and the Western Intermunicipal Community.
The Pediatric Emergency Department in Torres Vedras CHO is closed from 21:00 to 09:00 from April 1 by decision of the Executive Board of the National Health Service (SNS) as part of the reorganization of pediatric emergency services in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo to ensure predictability and safety of SNS Pediatrics services.
