A shooting in Atlanta, USA, killed one person and injured four, local police said on Twitter this Wednesday.
Authorities identified the suspect in the shooting as Deion Patterson, 24, who said he was armed and dangerous.
Police say there were no more shots, other than the initial shooting that took place in a building on West Peachtree Street, between 12th and 13th streets, in a commercial area with office towers and apartments.
So far, no suspects have been apprehended, and Atlanta police said in an email that it was an “active, fluid situation” in an effort to find the suspect and other victims.
According to Reuters, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens advised residents of the area to take refuge in this place, and the police sealed off some Midtown streets.
Atlanta Public Schools said several schools in the area will operate outdoors for the remainder of the day as a precaution.
Dozens of police and fire trucks lined West Peachtree Street as police continue to arrive more than an hour after the shooting.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that a large number of police officers are at the main entrance to the Northside Medical building, and several helicopters fly over the site as police try to control traffic on nearby streets.
