Microsoft says humans will always be smarter than artificial intelligence

Conversation simulators (chatbots) with artificial intelligence (AI) will not be able to outsmart people because they need “human understanding”, in the sense that it is people who tell them what to do.

This opinion was expressed by Microsoft expert Yusuf Mehdi in an interview with Efe journalist Sara Yanes-Richards.

This company, vice president and director of consumer marketing at Microsoft, thus responded to the alarm expressed by several industry experts about the rapid development of AI and the danger of its spiraling out of control.

“The basis of AI is text prediction. He predicts what will happen next. But this requires human understanding. Humans are the ones who contact the AI and tell it what to do,” he said.

Mehdi partly attributes the fear of AI to its novelty, which became popular with the launch of OpenIA ChatGPT six months ago, as well as the advertising of AI “chatbots” on Edge and Google search engines, respectively. Bing and Bard, three months ago. .

“We have to go through this technology understanding cycle (…) and as we learn more, I believe that these fears will pass,” he stressed.

However, other experts, such as Jeffrey Hinton, considered the “godfather” of AI, who worked at Google, recently raised concerns about the dangers posed by these naked technologies in an interview with The New York Times.

“This idea that these things [IA] they can actually become smarter than humans, as some people believed. But for the most part, they thought it would take too long. I thought that there were 30 to 50 years left, and maybe more. Obviously I don’t think so anymore,” Hinton added in an interview.

To allay fears about the future of the technology, Mehdi told EFE that “responsibility for creating AI” is key for his company.

As he said: “We have a responsible AI framework, we have principles that we apply to all technologies before releasing them. Principles such as: Are our activities transparent? Are we protecting children? this technology?” he stressed.
